Cara Bertanya dan Menawar Harga dalam Bahasa Inggris

Anda di pasar wisata. Penjual bilang harga 500 ribu. Anda mau tawar 300. Tapi mulut kaku. Keluar cuma “how much… cheap?” Penjual bingung. Anda kesal.

Bertanya Harga: Jangan Cuma “How Much”

How much is this? boleh. Tapi penutur asli punya lebih banyak cara. Pilih sesuai situasi.

Formal (toko, restoran, showroom)

  • Excuse me, how much does this cost?
  • What’s the price of this item?
  • Could you tell me the price, please?
  • May I ask how much this is?

Perhatikan: cost sebagai kata kerja. Bukan how much is the price (redundan). Cukup what’s the price atau how much is this.

Informal (pasar tradisional, obrolan santai)

  • How much for this?
  • What does this go for?
  • How much are you asking?
  • What’s the damage? (canda, artinya berapa biaya kerusakan = berapa harganya)

What’s the damage? hanya untuk teman. Jangan ke penjual yang tidak kenal.

Untuk barang satuan vs kilogram

  • How much per kilo?
  • What’s the price per piece?
  • How much for a dozen?

Saat tidak ada label harga

  • Is this on sale? (apakah ini sedang diskon?)
  • Is there a price tag? (apakah ada label harga?)
  • How much is this supposed to be? (seharusnya berapa harganya – sedikit agresif)

Pastikan Anda tahu konteks sebelum menawar.

Frasa pembuka tawaran

  • Can you do better than that?
  • Is that your best price?
  • Can you lower the price a bit?
  • That’s a little too high for me.

Jangan langsung bilang too expensive. Terdengar seperti protes, bukan negosiasi.

Menyebut harga tawaran spesifik

  • I’ll give you 300 thousand.
  • How about 200?
  • Would you take 150?
  • Can you do 250?

Three hundred thousand, bukan three hundred thousands (tidak perlu jamak).

Serangan balik setelah penjual bilang harga awal

Penjual: This is 500 thousand.
Anda: That’s steep. Can you come down to 350?

Steep artinya terlalu curam/mahal. Come down artinya turunkan harga.

Menawar dengan membeli banyak (bundling)

  • What if I take two? Can I get a discount?
  • I’ll buy three if you give me a better price.
  • What’s the price for ten?

Menawar dengan alasan

  • I saw the same item cheaper at another stall.
  • It’s a bit damaged, so can you reduce the price? (Ada sedikit rusak, bisa kurang?)
  • I only have 200 on me. (Saya cuma punya 200 – kadang berhasil, kadang dianggap gimmick)

Respon Penjual dan Cara Anda Merespon Lagi

Penjual bisa menerima, menawar balik, atau menolak.

Penjual menerima tawaran

  • Okay, deal.
  • Alright, take it.
  • Sold.

Respon Anda: Great, thank you. I’ll take it.

Penjual menawar balik

  • How about 400?
  • I can do 450, no lower.
  • Meet me in the middle at 400.

Respon Anda: bisa terima (Alright, 400 it is) atau tawar lagi (Still too high. Last offer 350).

Penjual menolak

  • Sorry, price is fixed. (harga pas, tidak bisa tawar)
  • I can’t go that low.
  • This is already cheap.

Mahal sekaliThat’s a bit steep for meVery expensive! (terlalu langsung)
Boleh kurang? Can you lower the price?Discount? (terdengar seperti perintah)
Harga akhir? What’s your best price?Last price? (tidak salah, tapi kurang alami)
Saya ambilI’ll take itI will buy (benar tapi kaku)
Saya lihat duluI’ll think about itI see first (terjemahan harfiah)
Terlalu mahalThat’s out of my budgetToo expensive (boleh, tapi agak ofensif jika langsung)

Dialog Lengkap: Di Pasar Baju

Penjual: Hello miss. Looking for something?

Anda: Yes. How much is this shirt?

Penjual: That one is 200 thousand.

Anda: 200? That’s a bit high. Can you do 150?

Penjual: I can give you 180. Best price.

Anda: How about 170?

Penjual: Okay, 170. Deal.

Anda: Alright, I’ll take it. Thank you.

Dialog: Di Toko Oleh-Oleh

Anda: How much for this bag of coffee?

Penjual: That’s 120 thousand.

Anda: What if I buy three bags? Any discount?

Penjual: For three, I can give you 300 thousand total.

Anda: That’s still 100 each. Can you do 90 per bag? 270 for three?

Penjual: Sorry, 300 is the lowest.

Anda: Okay, I’ll take two then. How much for two?

Penjual: Two will be 210 thousand.

Anda: Alright, deal.

Dialog: Di Pasar Hewan (Menawar Ekstrem)

Anda: How much for this cat?

Penjual: 1 million rupiah.

Anda: Wow, that’s steep. I saw similar cats for 600.

Penjual: This one is pure breed. But okay, give me 800.

Anda: 700 and I take it now.

Penjual: 750 final.

Anda: Done. I’ll take the cat.

Kesalahan Umum saat Menawar dalam Bahasa Inggris

1. Mengucapkan angka dengan salah

Salah: Two hundred thousands (jamak tidak perlu)
Benar: Two hundred thousand

Salah: One millions (jamak)
Benar: One million

2. Menggunakan cheap sebagai tawaran

Salah: Cheap? Cheap? (terdengar meminta diskon tanpa sopan)
Benar: Can you make it cheaper? atau Can you lower the price?

Cheap sebagai kata sifat untuk barang murah. Bukan kata kerja untuk menawar.

3. Lupa please

Salah: Give me discount.
Benar: Could you give me a discount, please?

4. Terlalu agresif

Salah: This is too expensive! I won’t buy it! (mengancam, tidak perlu)
Benar: That’s more than I expected. Can we work out a better price?

5. Menawar di tempat yang tidak boleh

Di restoran, supermarket, bioskop, mal besar – jangan menawar. Harga sudah tetap. Anda akan terlihat aneh.

Strategi Menawar untuk Pembelajar Bahasa Inggris

Strategi 1: Selalu mulai dengan bertanya harga. Jangan langsung tawar. Tanya How much? Dengarkan. Diam sejenak. Lalu bilang That’s a little high for me.

Strategi 2: Sebut angka spesifik. Jangan cheaper please. Tapi Can you do 250?

Strategi 3: Siapkan batas maksimal sebelum masuk toko.

Strategi 4: Gunakan bahasa tubuh ramah. Senyum. Jangan lipat tangan. Jangan mengancam pergi kecuali serius.

Strategi 5: Belajar angka besar. Seratus ribu = one hundred thousand. Bukan ten thousand (sepuluh ribu). Dua ratus lima puluh ribu = two hundred fifty thousand. Latihan ucapkan cepat.

Frasa untuk Menolak Harga dan Pergi

  • I’ll think about it. (saya pikir dulu – tidak membeli)
  • Maybe next time. (mungkin lain kali)
  • Thanks for showing me. (terima kasih sudah menunjukkan)
  • That’s still out of my budget. Thank you.

Jika penjual memanggil setelah Anda pergi:

  • What’s your last offer? (Jika Anda tertarik)
  • Sorry, I already found another one. (Jika tidak)

Menawar Online (Chat, Shopee, Tokopedia)

Dalam chat bahasa Inggris dengan penjual online:

  • Hi, is the price negotiable? (Harga bisa nego?)
  • What’s the best price for this item?
  • Can you do [harga] including shipping? (termasuk ongkir)
  • I’ll order right now if you give me [harga].

  1. “Permisi, berapa harga sepatu ini?” → Excuse me, how much are these shoes?
  2. “Itu terlalu mahal untuk saya. Bisakah 150?” → That’s too steep for me. Can you do 150?

Proyek Akhir

Anda ingin membeli tiga buah mangga. Penjual minta 30 ribu per kilo. Anda tawar jadi 25 ribu. Gunakan frasa yang sudah dipelajari.

Contoh:

You: How much per kilo for these mangoes?
Seller: 30 thousand per kilo, miss.
You: That’s a bit high. Can you do 25?
Seller: 28 is the lowest.
You: What if I take three kilos? 25 per kilo?
Seller: Okay, 25 per kilo for three. Deal.
You: Great. I’ll take three kilos. Thank you.

Butuh keberanian mengucapkan lima frasa: How much?, Can you do better?, I’ll give you [angka], Deal, dan Thanks anyway.

Hafalkan lima itu. Praktikkan di depan cermin. Lalu coba di pasar wisata. Jangan takut salah.
